Brass directional wall sign or plaque from The Plaza Hotel, New York. This is SOLID BRASS and weighs almost 8.5 pounds. This spectacular plaque has elaborate details typical of the interior of this great hotel. A beautiful 3-dimensional shield with the famous double P logo sits at the top of the plaque. The shield is approximately 5.5 inches high. The relief detail is spectacular!! The sign is just about 11 inches wide and a foot high. The directional arrow points to the left. The Plaque is in excellent condition. It doesn't appear that it was ever put up. Perhaps, when they had plaques cast they had extra replacements cast at the same time. (There are some light surface scratches that look like occurred just from shipping & handling.) This plaque was found in the basement.There is a hole in each of the 4 corners to allow it to be easily attached to a wall or door.

"SERVICE AREA" brass wall sign or plaque from The Plaza Hotel, New York. This is solid brass and weighs just over 3 pounds. The plaque is in excellent shape! There is a hole in each of the 4 corners to allow it to be easily attached to a wall or door. This spectacular plaque has elaborate details typical of the interior of this great hotel. The Plaza "clamshell" motif sits atop the sign which measures in total 5.125 inches hign by 10.125 inches long. One of the lots at Christie's Auction House's upcoming sale of Plaza Hotel memorabilia features these "Service Area" signs!! These plaques were used to denote an area on each floor that was "off limits" to the hotel guests! Behind these doors dumbwaiters once delivered room service meals from the kitchens as well as packages from the laundry, for here the huge linen closets were stocked with logo towels and frette sheets. In hidden rooms behind these doors the maids parked their carts and perhaps stopped for a smoke. (My investigations also turned up more than a few empty mini bar bottles...so who knows what else was going on...) US $400.00 + shipping

This door plaque or sign is from the now closed The Plaza Hotel, New York. It is very heavy (over 3 pounds!!) and solid brass!! This plate is from Room 1437 but lots of other numbers are available. A pair of these ashtrays were featured in lot 148 at Christie's Plaza Hotel auction. They were described as Louis XV style white painted parcel gilt ashtrays circa 1940. They sold for $2160!! (including buyers premium) When the smoking laws in New York changed these ash urns were used by the hotel as pedestals and plant stands. (I think this would make a great base for a pedestal table. It is solid & heavy! Or perhaps just a small top and use it as an end table.) You turn it so that the opening in the side is showing or not! The Plaza is famous for its elegant cream and gold décor. This may be the quintessential little piece of the hotel that you can bring into your home. There is a brass ashtray insert which will polish up beautifully. Inside the urn there is a removable waste container…if you plan to use it as a waste receptacle this makes emptying it a charm! The detail is spectacular! I don’t know what the exterior is made of, but it is solid and heavy! (close to 40 pounds!) The metal insert brings the total weight to just under 50 pounds. This piece is in great shape. The interior metal container needs washing, the brass needs polishing and bits of the gold foil and a few paint chips need touching up…and that’s about it! Fill it with white sand and gently tamp the double P logo on it!! (you can use one of the round doorknobs…they work pretty well...yes my brain is that creative!) The top is 14 inches by 12 inches and it stands approximately 27 inches tall. US$ 1000.00
